Culinary Concepts

PRESS Restaurant celebrates Napa Valley — the people, the ingredients, and the wines. PRESS is a place for locals, winemakers, vintners, and guests from around the world to experience the best the Napa Valley has to offer — it’s this sense of community that is at the heart of everything PRESS does. Under the leadership of Samantha Rudd and Chef Philip Tessier, PRESS features legendary Bay Area purveyors alongside innovative new culinary talents to highlight Napa Valley cuisine. The PRESS Culinary Team draws inspiration from around the globe while staying rooted in the style and ingredients that make the Napa Valley so special.

Under-Study is an all-day cafe which brings together a blend of culinary and beverage disciplines — viennoiserie, bakery, pastry, butchery, coffee brewing, and winemaking. Every ingredient we source, seed we plant, technique we refine, and tool we use is intentionally under study. The name reflects the ongoing pursuit of excellence and curiosity in everything we create. Come visit our culinary playground today in St. Helena, Napa Valley.

d’Or to Door - COMING SOON

Chef Partner Philip Tessier was the first American in history to medal at the Bocuse d’Or Competition. D’Or to Door brings that same culinary innovation on the road.

Our Team

Samantha Rudd

Samantha Rudd grew up in Napa Valley at Rudd Estate, the winery her father founded in 1996, where she embraced his vision of improving the land, wine, and community, guided by values of stewardship and excellence. After gaining experience at renowned wineries such as Château Margaux and Spottswoode, she returned home to the family businesses in 2015.

Following her father's passing, Samantha Rudd and her husband Mason Garrity have carried those values into Napa Valley's hospitality world as Owner of Generous Hospitality in St. Helena, California. The restaurant group was founded with PRESS, known for its refined American cuisine, which earned its first Michelin Star under her leadership in 2022 and is a World's 50 Best Discovery restaurant. Alongside Chef Partner Philip Tessier and Managing Partner Justin Williams, she opened Under-Study in spring 2025—a new culinary marketplace with a modern patisserie, café, and butcher shop, situated next door to PRESS.

Philip Tessier

Philip Tessier, acclaimed chef, author, and mentor, is Chef Partner at Generous Hospitality in St. Helena, California. The restaurant group was founded with PRESS, known for its refined American cuisine, which holds a Michelin star and is a World’s 50 Best Discovery restaurant. Along with Owner Samantha Rudd and Managing Partner Justin Williams, Tessier launched Under-Study in spring 2025—a new culinary marketplace with a modern patisserie, café, and butcher shop, situated next door to PRESS.

"There's nothing more gratifying than encouraging someone to grow and succeed in their own way," he says. "It lives way beyond just your own success. We want Generous Hospitality to become the restaurant group where young cooks come to learn how to become great chefs."
